Description
This is one of the most beloved dry Tokaj wine labels, produced by the Spanish-owned Oremus Winery. Oremus is part of the Tempos Vega Sicilia group, which is one of the world’s most prestigious wine groups—owner of luxury brands like Vega Sicilia Unico (Spain’s most expensive wine), Pinta, and Valbuena. All of Vega Sicilia’s other wineries are located within Spain, with one single exception: the Oremus Winery in Tokaj. This wine is a blend from different vineyards, including the vineyard which the wine is named for, Mandolás. The style of this wine has changed over the years. It started as a wine with a heavily-oaked, rich-textured, and full bodied style. But it has evolved to today’s version: a balanced, crisp, and fresh style. 2018 was a very warm vintage, so the wine has a nice rich texture, along with crisp apple aromas and just a light hint of oak aging. This wine was fermented in new oak barrels. But it only spent a few months in the barrels, in order to retain some fruit freshness. After the oak fermentation, the wine was transferred to stainless steel tanks to finish its aging. This wine has a great balance between the typical green apple and pear aromas which Furmint often has, along with the vanilla, toast, and butter aromas of the oak barrels. It is comforting and smooth, and very versatile with different foods.
