Mandolás comes from a number of vineyards, which include the Mandulás (almondy) vineyard, which was named after the almond trees that once thrived there. 100% Furmint harvested manually between mid-September and late-October from clay soils on weathered andesite and rhyolite tuff. Fermented both in stainless steel tanks (30%) and in new Hungarian oak barrels ranging between 136-228 litres in size. The oak is beautifully integrated with 20% having been aged in new oak and 80% in two-year-old barrels, both for six months. Thanks to a relatively rainy and cool summer, the Furmint preserved its vibrant acidity and fruit beautifully. Pear, quince (typical for Furmint), peach and white flower aromas, with a taut and elegant palate with fine structure and good length. A benchmark dry Furmint. Somewhere between Riesling and Chenin Blanc. Ideal with fish and white meat-based dishes. Oremus is owned by leading Spanish winery Bodegas Sicilia, and the fact that such a prestigious investor chose Tokaj as the location for its sole foreign winery speaks volumes about Tokaj’s terroir.
