Cseri is an exciting winery located in the tiny Pannonhalma region. Norbert Cseri started this family winery after working as the head winemaker at the Pannonhalma region’s leading winery for years. Now he runs the winery with his whole family. His wife, Ezter, is in charge of marketing and sales. His son, Barnabás, recently joined him on the winemaking side, after working for a few years in the Dr. Loosen Winery in the Mosel region. And the youngest of the family, his daughter Auguszta, is now studying wine marketing in Wachau, Austria. She manages the winery’s international and English-language tastings. The Cseri family has a love-affair with the Riesling grape, producing wines from it in at least six different styles. In the red wine area, they produce a range of styles with local and international varietals. According to Norbert, the reds of the 2017 vintage are especially good. During this vintage, it was hard from him to select the best wines of the season, because they all were so extraordinary! This Chanson blend is a good example of the vintage’s greatness. It has the complexity and depth of a premium wine, without the premium price. It is balanced and smooth, with flavors of forest fruits, violets, and leather. This blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc was aged for 10 months in second and third-use oak barrels.
