Tokaj Gin is produced in the Tokaj wine region, on the banks of the Bodrog river, by Seven Hills, a new distillery which has quickly racked up international awards for its first product. A judge in the Gin Masters 2020 completion praised its “lovely fruity nose” and “dried fruit and baking spice” on the palate.” The judge continued: “there is so much going on in this gin. A beautiful and complex nose reveals a spirit that’s well thought out and put together, this extends to the palate with wonderful bold flavours that retain a certain elegance with a lovely, lingering floral, earthy finish.” In the “World Gin Awards 2021,” Tokaj Gin was named “World’s Best Contemporary Gin.” This is a small-batch product, inspired by the distillery’s location in the Zemplén hills and by the flavors in the wines of the Tokaj region. It is made from 21 botanicals, mostly locally sourced, including juniper, coriander seed, forest pine bud, cubeb, elderflower, orris root, pink grapefruit, linden grapes, blackcurrant, and linden honey. The gin is matured in a combination of new Hungarian oak and used Tokaj barrels, aged in one of the region’s historic wine cellars.
