Kúria Kövesföld – Malatinszky Kúria
Monovarietal Merlot is somewhat of a rarity in the Villány region. More often than not, Merlot is used for making robust Bordeaux-style blends in which it plays second fiddle to Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon. Fortunately for us, Csaba Malatinszky is a winemaker who has always played by his own rules.
This wine is characterized by its elegance, harmony, and layers. It exudes deep aromas of juicy plum, blackberry, cocoa powder, and earthy potting clay. The palate reflects this perfectly, with aged notes of tobacco and dark chocolate also lingering on the long, oaky finish. The tannins are smooth, fully present, and well-integrated. Make sure to budget some time to decant this one—it is a grand wine that is sure to garner your full attention.
