Taste Hungary Wine Shop
EU and UK Edition

Connecting Wine Lover’s with Hungary’s Unique Small-Batch Wine

Every Wine Tells a Story

We present these stories through daily wine tastings in our cellar, and the wines we sell in our shop (and on this site). We work with winemakers who respect their terroir and the local traditions. We also focus on smaller wineries doing great things with minimal intervention. Our wine selection reflects our fascination with Hungary’s native grape varieties, some of which are only grown on a few hectares. Running a wine shop in a dynamic wine-producing country allows us to frequently visit our winemakers to get to know their vineyards, learn their winemaking philosophies, and taste with them in their cellars.

We’d love to share these stories with you!

Join Our Wine Club

Every month we curate our favorite wines (and new discoveries) for members of our wine clubs … shipped straight to your door! We have several types of clubs for different kinds of wine-lovers. Each shipment contains a selection of three wines with a unifying theme (such as a focus on a particular region, soil type, winemaker, varietal, or a contrast between styles/regions/varietals). Our wine club is available to ship to most countries in Europe (and in the US).

About Us

It all started with a book. in 2008 Carolyn published her first book on Hungarian food and wine. That year Carolyn and Gábor started Taste Hungary (a food and wine tour company), and the first clients were readers of the book. Their interest (and obsession) with wine grew, and so did general interest in learning about and tasting Hungarian wine. They opened The Tasting Table Cellar in Budapest’s Palace District in 2014, Tasting Table US wine imports and online shop in 2019, and The Tasting Table Wine Shop in 2020 (located across from the cellar). Along the way they gathered a team of fantastic tour guides and sommeliers (and a keen chef).

Customer Testimonials

Living in Budapest, we first came to Taste Hungary for a friend’s birthday party and have been back many times. It’s a great place to take visitors and friends from abroad, some of whom have continued ordering from Taste Hungary when they get home. The cellar, with a vaulted brick ceiling, is cosy and atmospheric. Our favourite events are the Thursday winemaker dinners, with paired food and wine, and often a speaker from a vineyard to give background on the region and grapes, as well as add a family story. The staff are friendly, engaging, and ready to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for Hungarian wines.

Budapest has many stand-out memories, but perhaps the one that I will literally be able to take with me wherever I go, is discovering the wealth that is Hungarian wine. And for that I have to thank the crew at The Tasting Table. I found myself back in London again during the pandemic, which is how I know I’ll always be able to take Hungarian wine with me: The Tasting Table delivers! Tamás even specially ordered wine for me from some of my favourite winemakers, who I discovered during my many Tasting Table tastings.
AINE
I have visited The Tasting Table multiple times over the past several years, and it never disappoints! I recommend it to all my visitors and local friends because it provides such an excellent introduction to Hungary’s amazing wines. In addition to wine tours, Taste Hungary holds intimate tasting dinners with Hungarian winemakers to educate participants on their wines, the winemaking process, and the wide variety of Hungarian wines. The Instagram-worthy location in an old stone wine cellar is icing on the cake! I’m so excited that Taste Hungary now offers both a U.S. and European wine club, so my friends and family around the world can experience the terrific wines coming out of Hungary.
