Furmint Vodka – Seven Hills Distillery

This small batch vodka (800 bottles) was released in December 2022 with the aim of crafting a spirit that would incorporate the flavors and aromas of the Tokaj wine region. Rather than using whole Furmint grapes as the base material, this vodka only uses very gently pressed must from Furmint grapes. As a result, Furmint’s characteristic flavors and aromas are present without the waxiness or bitterness of the grape’s skins and seeds.

The must was fermented on a French champagne yeast then dripped and filtered twice through a special filter system. Thanks to this, the vodka is very smooth despite its 42% alcohol content. Seven Hills Distillery intends to buy the grapes from a different vineyard each year in order to promote variety and a degree of spontaneity with each “vintage” of vodka that they produce.

Aromas of pear and quince jump out initially, but hints of light citrus are also present. This vodka has a smooth mouthfeel with a mineral and fruity finish that is characteristic of Furmint wine.
