This is the first Superior-level Kadarka produced by the Tóth Ferenc Winery in the Eger region. Superior-level wines demand both a smaller yield of grapes per hectare and a longer period of ageing in the cellar (including some mandatory oak-barrel ageing). The grapes for this wine were harvested from the Tihamér single-vineyard which has the perfect soil for the Kadarka variety, according to the winery. The wine was fermented in stainless steel before being transferred to a 2,000 liter oak vessel for its 9 months of ageing. This wine shows the classic Kadarka fruit-driven flavours of raspberry and strawberry syrup, next to a pleasant peppery spiciness, juicy acidity, and soft, velvety tannins. Hungarians claim that Kadarka is the best pairing for paprika-based foods like Paprikash Chicken or Hungarian-style fish soup. We couldn’t agree more.
