Description
Mátra most known for its fresh, aromatic whites, and this is one of them. This is a dry 100% Muscat Blanc, an old variety which is planted in many regions around the world (with only around 700 hectares planted in Hungary). Balázs Ludányi, owner/winemaker of Centurio, has three hectares of vineyards, and the grapes for this wine are from the Fáy vineyard, one of his top sites. Ludányi works with low yields, always with an eye for letting the terroir shine through in his wines. On the nose, this wine has chamomile, peach, and mint, combined with some minerality and flintiness (from the volcanic soil). It is pleasantly lemony, very dry, and a bit salty on the finish. This is a refreshing wine (but with plenty of complexity and richness), perfect for a warm evening, paired with a salad, grilled vegetables, or even something on the spicier side, like curry, Centurio, founded in 2001, makes just 8,000 bottles a year.
