Description
János Árvay is an iconic figure in the Tokaj region. Initially, he did not plan to work with wine, but a wedding gift of 450 vines from his father-in-law convinced him otherwise. During Communism, he worked for more than 15 years in the state-owned winery in Mád. After the regime change, he began working as head winemaker at the French-owned Disznókő Winery. Half of the wine for this Birtok (estate) Furmint was fermented in stainless-steel tanks, while the other half was aged in Hungarian oak barrels for one-and-a-half years before blending. On the nose, this wine shows complex aromas of ripe pear, vanilla, a hint of smoke, and an intense mineral-chalky aroma. This is a delicious wine, which reflects the classic style of dry Furmint wines produced in the Tokaj region.
